Greetings. I sincerely welcome all visitors to the website of the Korea-Myanmar Association for Economic and Security Studies (KMAESS).
한국과 미얀마는 오랜 교류의 역사와 상호 보완적인 경제구조를 바탕으로 다양한 분야에서 협력의 가능성을 가지고 있습니다. 그러나 오늘날 양국을 둘러싼 환경은 정치·외교·안보뿐 아니라 경제, 산업, 공급망, 에너지와 자원 등 여러 분야가 서로 긴밀하게 연결되면서 더욱 복합적으로 변화하고 있습니다.
Korea and Myanmar have significant potential for cooperation across various fields, based on their long history of exchange and complementary economic structures. Today, however, the environment surrounding both countries is becoming increasingly complex as politics, diplomacy, security, economics, industry, supply chains, energy, and resources become closely interconnected.
이러한 변화 속에서 미얀마를 보다 정확하고 균형 있게 이해하고, 이를 바탕으로 한국과 미얀마가 함께할 수 있는 새로운 협력의 길을 모색할 필요성이 더욱 커지고 있습니다.
Amid these changes, there is a growing need to understand Myanmar more accurately and objectively, and to explore new paths of cooperation that Korea and Myanmar can pursue together.
KMAESS는 이러한 문제의식에서 출발했습니다.
KMAESS was founded from this awareness and sense of responsibility.
2025년 한국-미얀마 경제안보연구소(KM-IESS)로 시작한 연구와 현장 활동은 미얀마에 대한 전문적인 연구와 양국 간 실질적인 교류·협력의 필요성에 공감하는 각계 전문가들의 참여로 확대되었습니다. 이후 2026년 산업통상부의 설립허가를 받아 사단법인 한국-미얀마 경제안보연구회(KMAESS)로 새롭게 출범하였습니다.
The research and field activities that began in 2025 as the Korea-Myanmar Institute for Economic and Security Studies (KM-IESS) expanded through the participation of experts from various fields who shared the need for specialized research and practical exchange and cooperation between the two countries. In 2026, following authorization by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the organization was newly launched as the Korea-Myanmar Association for Economic and Security Studies (KMAESS).
KMAESS는 미얀마의 정치·외교·안보와 경제·산업을 종합적으로 연구하고, 경제안보·공급망·에너지·자원과 ASEAN 및 인도태평양 지역질서의 변화까지 폭넓게 살펴보고자 합니다.
KMAESS studies Myanmar’s politics, diplomacy, security, economy, and industry comprehensively. We also examine broader changes in economic security, supply chains, energy, resources, and the regional order of ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific.
그러나 우리의 역할을 연구와 분석에만 머물게 하지는 않겠습니다.
However, we will not allow our role to remain limited to research and analysis alone.
연구를 통해 얻은 지식과 통찰을 정부·기업·학계 및 전문가들과 공유하고, 한국과 미얀마의 사람과 기관, 기업을 연결하여 정책과 연구가 교류와 실질적인 협력으로 이어질 수 있는 플랫폼을 만들어가겠습니다.
We will share the knowledge and insights gained through research with governments, businesses, academia, and experts. By connecting people, institutions, and companies in Korea and Myanmar, we will build a platform where policy and research can lead to exchange and practical cooperation.
